The Sachem School District is promising to discipline a handful of high school boys who taunted William Floyd’s football team with crude, sexually suggestive signs aimed at players’ girlfriends.

In a letter to the Sachem School District community, Superintendent Patti Trombetta apologized Tuesday for the incident that occurred during Sachem North’s home game Friday night against William Floyd.

Students in the crowd held signs featuring the girls’ pictures and names alongside sexually suggestive messages; photos of the students holding the offensive signs are floating around on social media.

One poster showed a Floyd player and his girlfriend with a crude question about them. Another sign read “let me touchdown” on one of the opposing player’s girlfriends.

The signs surfaced Friday night during the third annual National Football Foundation Kickoff Classic at Sachem North’s Fred Fusaro Alumni Stadium. Sachem North won 35-13.
