SBU Sports: Volleyball holds on for weekend sweep at Northeastern

By TBR News Media October 29, 2026 2 min read

The Stony Brook volleyball team got back to .500 in CAA play after finishing off a weekend sweep at Northeastern in Boston, MA with another 3-1 (25-19, 21-25, 25-23, 25-20) victory on Oct. 25.

Ella Sanders led the way with one of her best matches yet, picking up her 20th career double-double after totaling 19 kills and 10 digs to go along with three aces and four total blocks.

SET 1 | After taking the lead with just their fourth point of the set, the Seawolves never looked back as they rode their early momentum all the way to a 25-19 win. Sanders led the way with five kills, a block, and an ace, while four other Seawolves recorded multiple kills. She would go on to finish off the set with back-to-back kills.

SET 2 | Stony Brook continued to benefit from Northeastern’s offensive miscues as multiple errors helped give the Seawolves a slim 10-9 lead to start the second. This time, though, the Seawolves could not hold on to the lead as the Huskies soon went back in front a few points later. Two kills from Lei Lasike and three more Northeastern service errors kept it a two-point game at 20-18, but it was not enough as the Huskies pulled away to take the set.

SET 3 | The Seawolves remained effective at the serving line as aces from Carey-Jean Block, Zayda Fuertez, Sanders, and Taryn Su kept things close as the Seawolves trailed 15-13 halfway through. After the Huskies built a 20-16 lead out of the break, four kills from Sanders followed back-to-back aces from Wheat and a block from Ayanna Pierre Louis suddenly made it 22-20 Stony Brook. Sander would notch another kill and an ace to set up Mercedes Motton for the set-winning kill.

SET 4 | Six Seawolves would record a kill at the start of the fourth as Stony Brook quickly built a five-point lead. Though Northeastern did comeback and score 10 of the next 12 to take a 14-11 advantage, Stony Brook regained its momentum with a pair of 3-0 runs to go back up 17-15. After the Huskies tied it up again, Pierre Louis recorded two kills and two blocks to get it to match point, at which point Sanders would do the honors with her 19th kill.
