By TBR News Media October 29, 2026 2 min read

The Stony Brook football team earned a 27-17 road victory over Bryant University on Oct. 24 in Smithfield, Rhode Island, improving to 5-3 overall and 3-1 in CAA play behind two touchdown catches from Seth Sweitzer and a strong defensive performance from Ryan Barrett, Khalid Bueno, Joseph Garcia and Lance Byndon.

Sweitzer led the offense with eight catches for 122 yards and two touchdowns. Quinn Boyd completed 19-of-26 passes for 264 yards, while CJ Hester rushed for 64 yards on 18 carries and added a touchdown.

Bueno made his presence felt on defense with six tackles and two sacks, continuing to lead the FCS in sacks and tackles for loss. Garcia recorded an interception, while Ryan Barrett paced the Seawolves with a season-high 12 tackles. Michael Mannino was perfect on all three extra-point attempts and converted field goals from 25 and 43 yards.

“We found a way to win, and I’m really proud of our defense and the resilience they showed,” said head coach Billy Cosh postgame. “They came up with multiple big stops and takeaways, and our special teams were excellent as well. Mannino was huge for us today. These guys deserve a lot of credit after a tough loss last week. We came out against a good Bryant team and found a way to get the job done.”

Up next, the team is back in action on Oct. 31 as they host Sacred Heart for a Halloween matchup at LaValle stadium beginning at noon on FloCollege.

This marks the 17th meeting between these two programs, the first since Sacred Heart joined the CAA and first since 2017. Stony Brook owns an 11-5 record all-time against the Pioneers.
