Police are asking for the public’s help identifying a man who disappeared into the ocean at Robert Moses State Park Saturday afternoon as a powerful coastal storm battered Long Island.

The man, described by New York State Police as a white male wearing dark-colored shorts, was spotted in the water near Field 3 at about 2:30 p.m.

New York State Police and New York State Park Police are now asking anyone who may know someone who was at Robert Moses Saturday and has not been heard from to contact investigators.

The incident unfolded as dangerous conditions from the weekend nor’easter affected Long Island’s South Shore. Swimming at the park is currently prohibited and officials have throughout the storm urged any visitors to exercise extreme caution.
