A Long Island pastry chef and social media personality will bring her baking expertise, personal story and passion for community to the Old Westbury Hebrew Congregation on Oct. 1.

Jacqueline Spiegel, known to her more than 100,000 Instagram followers as Jaxx, will headline Cook with Jaxx, a two-part event featuring an intimate cooking experience, an evening conversation and opportunities for community members to connect over food.

The event is being organized by the Old Westbury Hebrew Congregation as part of its effort to expand programming beyond religious services and create opportunities for people throughout the community to gather.

The afternoon VIP cooking experience will run from noon to 3 p.m. at the home of a board member. The evening program will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. at the congregation, where Spiegel will discuss her journey as a pastry chef, baker and social media personality.

Mittleman said the event grew out of the congregation’s desire to bring interesting programming to its facility and encourage people to become involved in the community.

“Basically, the goal of programming and community engagement was to try to bring interesting Jewish-related programming to the synagogue to sort of expand the ways that our community and our building function outside of religion per se,” Mittleman said.
