Meet Frank Trotta of Suffolk Credit Union & Brookhaven IDA

Frank C. Trotta has always had the determination to give back to the community, so to anyone who knows him, it is no surprise he was elected to serve as chairman of the Board of Directors of the Suffolk Credit Union. He has personally been a member for more than 50 years and is a previous vice chairman of the board.
“That has always been one of the things I’ve valued about Suffolk Credit Union,” says Trotta of the entity that will celebrate its 60th year in 2027. It currently has 11 branches and expects to open a 12th before the end of this year. “The credit union motto is, ‘People helping people.’ That’s not just financially, it is about the work we do in the community. We have great people, and they’re not just sitting behind a desk. They’re out in the community serving others. We did a beach clean-up at Smith Point County Park in Shirley with the Philanthropy Network of New York with many of the staff taking part.”
Trotta, who volunteers his time to the Board, brings decades of leadership experience in business, public service and community engagement to his new role. He will lead the Board in its continued focus on strong governance, member value and service to communities across Long Island.
Trotta and the rest of the family at Suffolk Credit Union understand that being strong financially is the start of ensuring strong communities. Suffolk Credit Union, which is a member-owned, not-for-profit financial cooperative, has more than $2 billion in assets and 73,000-plus members. It has won five years in a row the Long Island Choice Award for “Best Credit Union.” This year, it was honored by Forbes as one of the “Best-In-State Credit Unions,” as well as by Newsweek’s “America’s Best Regional Banks and Credit Unions.” What does it all mean to the average member and those looking for a financial home? Most people think of credit unions when they want a car loan or a mortgage. Suffolk Credit Union also provides financial education and guidance that can take a member from that first checking or saving account all the way through all of life’s stages. Chartered in 1967, Suffolk Credit Union (suffolkcu.org) has grown alongside the communities it serves while maintaining a strong commitment to local service financial empowerment and community investment.
“Suffolk Credit Union offers competitive rates and terms across a broad range of financial products, but what really sets us apart is how we use our resources, knowledge and relationships to make a meaningful difference in the lives of our members and across Long Island,” explains Trotta, publisher and owner of Fire News. “That includes providing financial education through schools and community organizations, supporting local causes and helping our members build stronger financial futures. It’s what we mean by ‘Empowering Your Possible’ — helping people and communities turn their goals and aspirations into what’s possible.”
As publisher of Fire News, he is in charge of a vast network of publications that cover New York, as well as 17 other states. Fire News serves the fire and EMS community.
