Karmacue returns to Port Washington for annual community cook-off

By Long Island Press October 5, 2026 2 min read

Port Washington residents will have another chance to sample local barbecue, listen to live music and support community organizations when Alper’s Karmacue returns to Irma Avenue on Sunday, Oct. 18.

The annual event, hosted by Alper’s Hardware, will run from noon to 4 p.m. and will feature a barbecue cook-off, local food vendors, music, crafts and other activities. All profits from the event will benefit the Port Washington Community Chest, a nonprofit organization that supports local charities serving approximately 7,000 residents.

The centerpiece of Karmacue is its Cook-Off, where local amateur barbecue teams compete for two titles. Attendees will select the “People’s Choice” winner, while a panel of expert judges will determine the “Cook-Off at Karmacue Champion.”

Participation in the cook-off is open to the public. Teams interested in competing can contact Adam Novick at [email protected].

The festival also will bring together several local businesses, restaurants and organizations. This year’s participants include Yummy Gyro, Smusht, Ralph’s Italian Ices, Carlo’s Pizza, PW Meat Center, Soulshine Art Studio, Bach2Rock Music School, Chuck Idol and HatTrixx.

“Come on down to Alper’s Karmacue, a truly wonderful event for our community,” said Bobby Keller, executive director of the Community Chest. “Whether you are a BBQ enthusiast or just want to try some delicious food, there is something for everyone.”
