The fields near a condominium development will soon become official soccer fields owned by the Town of Oyster Bay.

Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino said the fields will be donated to the town in the next few weeks by the Country Pointe Plainview property owners. He said that the property owners planned to sell phases of the condos and then donate the property toward the end of that process.

“Most of the residents have seen the condos going up,” Saladino said. “As part of the negotiations, they are donating to the town upward of 60 acres, which we’re going to develop into mostly soccer fields, all recreational fields.”

He said project has been developing for more than ten years, and said that in 2016, the agreement to donate the fields to the town was finalized.

The fields have already been used by soccer players, but the town will now be in charge of maintaining the land, Saladino said. He said the fields will be made into recreational fields for anyone to use and will be maintained as grass, not turf.

He said the town is in the design phase of the project and is also in the final stages of acquiring the property, known as the Peter C. Collins Soccer Park, located at 1425 Old Country Road.
