Port Washington to march in honor of veterans

By Long Island Press November 2, 2026 2 min read

Port Washington residents will have an opportunity to honor the men and women who have served in the U.S. armed forces during the community’s annual Veterans Day parade on Wednesday, Nov. 11.

American Legion Post 509 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1819 are inviting veterans to participate in the parade and encouraging the public to attend and show their support for those who have served the country. This year’s parade will feature the Port Washington Fire Department, the Nassau County Police Department Mounted Unit and the Nassau County Firefighters Band.

“This is a great opportunity for everyone to recognize and honor all those who have served our country,” said American Legion Post 509 Commander Fred Falconer.

The parade is scheduled to begin at 9:45 a.m. Participants are encouraged to gather on Campus Drive between 9:15 and 9:30 a.m.

From there, the parade will travel north on Port Washington Boulevard, turn west onto Main Street and conclude at the Sunset Park band shell, where a memorial service will be held.

Veterans Day, observed annually on Nov. 11, recognizes and honors all those who have served in the U.S. military. The annual gathering provides an opportunity for the community to come together in appreciation of their service and sacrifice.
