Capybara Pups Born at Long Island Game Farm

By Dan's Papers September 30, 2026 2 min read

Four capybara pups were born Friday, Sept. 18, at the Long Island Game Farm – Wildlife Park in Manorville, according to the park.

The pups were born at about 7 p.m. to Lily, their mother, and are healthy and doing well, the park said.

Native to South America, capybaras are the world’s largest species of rodent, and are known for gentle personalities and a remarkable ability to connect with people.

The Wildlife Park has launched a public naming contest through its official Instagram and Facebook accounts. Followers can submit name ideas, like the official announcement post and share it on social media.

A panel of Game Farm staff will review the submissions and select the winning names. Winners will be contacted by email and receive a Capybara Encounter for themselves and one guest, providing an opportunity to meet the pups.

“Watching Lily welcome her new litter has been such a heartwarming experience for our entire team,” Long Island Game Farm President Melinda Novak said. “She is such an attentive, wonderful mother, and seeing these four pups already exploring and thriving brings so much life and joy to the Game Farm.”
