Blotto Fest heads to Long Island Music and Entertainment Hall of Fame

By TBR News Media November 2, 2026 2 min read

More than four decades after Blotto broke through with its comedy-rock hit “I Wanna Be a Lifeguard,” the band is returning to the spotlight with an event celebrating its music, humor and unexpected path to MTV fame.

Blotto Fest will take place Sunday, Nov. 8, at 3 p.m. at the Long Island Music and Entertainment Hall of Fame (LIMEHOF) in Stony Brook, bringing together three original band members and local musicians for an afternoon of performances featuring songs from the group’s catalog.

Broadway Blotto, Bowtie Blotto and F. Lee Harvey Blotto will participate in the event, which Hall of Fame Vice Chairman Tom Needham hopes will become an annual celebration of the band’s legacy.

The idea followed the enthusiastic response to Hello! My Name Is Blotto: The Movie!, which screened during the LIMEHOF’s 2nd Annual Music Documentary Film Festival. The documentary drew sold-out audiences and received the festival’s Spirit of Independent Filmmaking Award.

“The amount of affection fans seemed to have towards the band was very special,” Needham said. “There’s a demand for Blotto.”

Formed in Albany in 1978, Blotto built a following by combining rock music with irreverent lyrics and a playful stage presence. But the group’s beginnings were far removed from the music-video spotlight that would eventually introduce it to a national audience.
